Overview: What is GitBross?

GitBross is a decentralized Git hosting platform that combines traditional version control with blockchain technology and IPFS storage. It offers a completely new, Web3 approach to open-source software management.

It is designed to give developers full ownership and monetization capabilities over their code in a transparent, censorship-resistant ecosystem.

Core Concepts and Technology

GitBross is built on core Web3 technologies to create a truly decentralized and transparent development ecosystem. This section breaks down the foundational components.

Decentralization & Storage

IPFS Integration: Provides decentralized, censorship-resistant storage for all your repositories.
Blockchain Proof (Solana): The Solana Blockchain records an immutable proof of ownership and version history for your projects and contributions.

Ecosystem & Access

Creator Economy: Direct monetization features for open-source contributors including paid starring system where users pay 0.005 SOL to repository owners.
Web3 Authentication: Connect securely using popular Solana-compatible wallets like Phantom and Solflare.

Getting Started Guide

Follow these quick, numbered steps to launch your first decentralized repository on GitBross.

  1. Create Account: Sign up with traditional credentials or connect your Solana wallet (recommended for full Web3 functionality).
  2. Create Repository: Create new projects or migrate/mirror existing repositories from GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or any Git platform. All standard Git commands work exactly as expected.
  3. Publish to IPFS: Use the "Add to IPFS + Blockchain" button on your repo page to decentralize your code storage.
  4. Blockchain Verification: Register your project metadata (ownership, version hash) on the Solana blockchain for immutable, verifiable proof.
  5. Copy/Save Links: Copy the provided Solana and IPFS links from the popup window to access your repo on both networks at your convenience.

Monetization and Creator Economy

GitBross enables direct monetization for open-source developers, cutting out intermediaries and ensuring transparency.

Tips and Donations: Receive direct tips and donations from your community in SOL.
Bounty System: Set up and manage bounties for specific features or bug fixes directly within the platform.
Fair Distribution: Smart contracts ensure transparent and fair distribution of rewards to all verified project contributors.

Developer Experience and Compatibility

GitBross provides a seamless transition from traditional Git workflows, ensuring a zero learning curve.

Native Git Compatibility: All standard Git commands work exactly as expected.
Familiar Interface: The web interface ensures easy adoption.
Leverage Existing Tools: You can use your existing tools, scripts, and workflows without modification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about GitBross features and functionality.

Do I need to download or install anything? No! GitBross is completely browser-based. For basic features, just use your web browser. For blockchain features, you'll only need a Solana wallet browser extension like Phantom or Solflare - no downloads or installations required.
How does the star feature work and how do wallet users get paid? GitBross has a dual starring system:

🆓 Free Stars: Email users can star any repository for free
💰 Paid Stars: When a wallet user stars another wallet user's repository, they automatically send 0.005 SOL directly to the repository owner's wallet

The payment happens instantly via the Solana blockchain - no intermediaries, no fees taken by GitBross. Repository owners receive 100% of the star payments directly to their wallet.
How does the "Add to IPFS + Blockchain" button work? This button performs a 3-step process:

1️⃣ IPFS Upload: Your repository is uploaded to the IPFS network for decentralized storage
2️⃣ Blockchain Record: An immutable record is created on the Solana blockchain with your repository details and IPFS hash
3️⃣ Permanent Links: You receive both IPFS and blockchain transaction links for permanent access

Cost: ~0.00008 SOL (less than $0.01 USD) for both IPFS storage and blockchain verification.
Can I use regular Git commands? Yes! GitBross is built on proven Git hosting technology. All standard Git commands (clone, push, pull, etc.) work exactly as expected. The blockchain and IPFS features are optional additions to traditional Git workflow.
What's the difference between email users and wallet users? 📧 Email Users: Sign up with email/password, can star repositories for free, use all Git features
👛 Wallet Users: Connect with Solana wallet, can receive SOL payments from stars, access full Web3 features

Both user types can create repositories and use all standard Git functionality. Wallet users additionally get monetization features.
Which browsers are supported? GitBross works in all modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, Brave). For blockchain features, just use Phantom wallet or any other Solana wallet.
